Loeffler Family History
Unfortunately, records for ancestors born before 1875 are virtually impossible to locate. After WWII the town they came from was under Soviet Military control and many non-Catholic churches were burned. It is believed that the Loeffler family were Baptists.
Charles August Loeffler was born in Donnerau, Germany on 25 Feb 1875 and died in Paterson, NJ in July 1958. Donnerau was a small town in Germany prior to WWII and was part of the Pomerania region. After the war that portion of Germany, the German – Polish border, was shifted west. The area was turned over to Poland although it remained under Soviet Military control. The town name was changed to Grzmiąca and the German population was asked to leave. During the late 1980’s the Communist regime was overthrown and the area has been democratically governed since then. In 2008 the town had a population of 1,375 people.
