  German name for Charles is Karl In 1930 his grandson Herman Nowen was living with him. The family story is this was his son but from his housekeeper. Henry Nowen's parents died when he was an infant and it's possilbe Charles and Martha took him in. Charles had several wives and supposedly married his last wife at age 90 although that wouldn't be correct if his death date is correct. A Charles Loeffler died in Paterson, NJ in July 3, 1958 at age 83. Social Security shows a "life claim" for him on 23 Aug 1945. This would be the date he applied for retirement benefits. Henry Owen is listed as adopted. Obituary also lists step daughters. 1910 cenus lists the family as Toffler When he came to the U.S. he said he was going to see his sister. No records have been found for a sister. Obituary Charles Loeffler PATERSON Charles Loeffler, of 160 North Third Street, died suddenly Thursday in his car at the Madison Avenue parking lot, Paterson. Mr. Loeffler was 83 years old. Born in Germany, he had been a resident of Paterson for about 60 years. He was retired from the Henry Muhs Company where he was employed as a stationary engineer. He was a member of the Union Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Loeffler is survived by his wife, Mrs, Nancy Marchitte Loeffler: two sons, Henry and Otto, both of Pater- son: one foster son, Henry Nowen, of Totowa Borough; one stepson, Roy Moduno, of Warren Point; three stepdaughters; Mrs. Frances Delany, of Fair Lawn; Mrs. Gloria Sigler, of North Haledon and Mrs. Evelyn Grundler, of Hawthorne Stepchildren are most likely from his seconf wife whose maiden name is Marchitte but previous married name for Moduno. There was also a Charles A. Loeffler with wife Elizabeth living in Paterson, NJ and another Charles Loeffler living in Paterson with wife Josephine. Not certain how they're related
